Just do these 5 things.
If you’re a small business owner or entrepreneur, then one of the most important decisions is deciding where to spend your marketing dollars.
Obviously, you want to nurture new leads while also engaging with your current customers. The struggle is you need to ensure your marketing tactics are cost-effective, drive results, and unique to you.
What’s one of the best ways to be personable, informative and have a clear call-to-action for your audience?
Email Marketing.
According to Radicati Group, more than 3.7 billion people use email worldwide. In the US alone, 92% of adults use email, and 61% of these email users are checking and sending their emails every day.
If you’re a small business owner, think about the advantages you can have when it comes to email marketing.
You can personalize each message and tailor it to customer actions. Doing so makes you more engaging, personable, and shows that you really care for your audience.
Are you already in the email marketing game?
Great.
You’re in good company.
Chances are your competitors are also sending emails to your customers.
How can you stand out and be the most engaging email address in your customer’s’ mailbox?
Follow these 6 tips so your emails stand out and you appear engaging, interesting, valuable to your audience.
They’re the basics I’ve used to generate 100k-months for businesses all over the world in the last 2 years.
Write A Subject Line And A First Line That Hits Them
The easiest way to ensure that your email will be read, assuming you have a killer subject line, is to speak directly to your customer’s heart and mind. What I mean is whatever you write, it needs to be relevant and something important to them.
Carry the conversation. Be PART of the conversation.
Not only will you appear relevant, understanding, and empathetic, but you’ll separate yourself from competitors by sounding like a real human — not just another marketing email.
Two of the biggest mistakes companies make when blasting their mail lists are:
1. Sending promo after promo without giving their list any real value or establishing rapport.
2. Filling their emails with monthly updates, invites, or treating emails as if they’re a daily journal.
Don’t do this.
Your email marketing has the potential to solve problems, feel personal, and sound genuine. Doing any of the two above erases the chance of building a real relationship with your list.
If you’ve done your research, then you know the benefits of your product, your customer’s desires, frustrations, and how you can help them. With every email you send, let your list know that you know that and do it sounding like a human — they’ll love it.
This leads me to my next point…
Condition Readers To Understand Your Value So They Click
You should know that readers tend to first look at where the email is from, not the subject line. So…
Make sure your email address is readable and that customers know who’s sending the email. You can even be quirky as hell with it if you want. I’ve noticed some brands like Chubbies tend to play around with their ‘from’ line a lot.
Second, every email you send is important. The way you condition readers to understand you’re bringing of something of value is to ACTUALLY bring them something of value.
Email marketing is not about telling people about your day, how you’re doing, or to show current business stats. You need to provide the readers information that they can use or think about it.
Be informative, engaging, encouraging, filled with advice, or just give some daily inspiration.
Whatever you do, bring something valuable.
Straight up.
Your customers really only care about one thing: themselves. But they’re looking for someone to relate to and somehow who knows them — be that person.
One of the biggest mistakes many email marketers make is not stating the answer to the customer question, “What’s in it for me?”
Always inform the reader on how you can help them with each email.
Have An Attractive Sentence Structure
You may have noticed many of the most successful email marketers, especially if they use text email, will have short sentences in their email. When I mean short, I mean really short.
About maybe 6–8 words until it breaks for the next line. Sometimes you’ll see a small pack of short sentences — most times not more than three.
What they’re doing is making the email easier to scan.
With shorter sentences, your eyes are constantly going down.
They go further.
Further.
And further.
Until you reach the CTA.
Not only does this help with readability but it makes your emails look more attractive. No one wants to open up an email and see a big block of text.
Make Your CTAs Sexier
Avoid using link descriptions that are way too easy to ignore. Instead of ‘click here’, word your links such as ‘Read the rest here…’ or ‘Download the report here’.
Always be explicit and crystal clear about the actions you want the reader to take.
Good email marketing is about being understandable and readable, but that doesn’t mean you have to be dull.
They’re more likely to click on your link if there is that they can gain, even if that’s just a spike in emotion.
People get dozens to hundreds of emails every single day. Why not sprinkle a little pizzazz and personality in each of your messages?
Your list will love it.
Personalize Your Emails To The Reader
This is crucial.
When you start making automations and sending mass emails, please make them so each and every email has the reader’s name in them, at the very least.
Simply writing “Hello customer” or “Hi!” is definitely lazy and not engaging at all.
People love reading their own name.
It makes it feel like you’re speaking to them.
Eventually, tailoring automations/sequences/flows to customer behavior will give you that high-level segmentation that’ll make your business stand out. Customers love it when you guide them on their journey and are one step ahead of them.
You raise your credibility as a business and show you really care about giving customers the best experience.
Conclusion
Clear. Readable. Valuable.
This is the key to email marketing. These are just some of the most simple but highly ignored email marketing tactics that many businesses don’t use.
A good email is concise, engages, entertaining, and is packed with personality.
So the next time you blast your email list with a message, make sure it’s something that stands out from the hundreds that’ll get that week. It’s the best way to separate yourself from the pack and be the sender they’ll grow to love.
